But in the dead of winter Nantucket is a different place, where the reality is that not everyone will be a survivor. But at least Mark can write a good essay about Fate & Free Will!

Now, Lelia cant go outside and play. Her Auntie Sadie just told her that outside theres an Adam Khor: a man who eats children. Auntie Sadie wants Lelia to stay inside and learn to cook. Her uncle wants Lelia to entertain the new American aid workers. In Afghanistan it wasnt safe so her family fled to Pakistan. In Pakistan shes not supposed to trust any of the local people. When will things get better?

It was just another night in the union hall talking to new members. Then a tall young man walked up to V.R. and towering over him said, "Are you a communist?" Several men stopped what they were doing and gathered around. You want to know if Im a communist? V.R. asked. The place went silent.
