"UnSlut" - STUDENTS ONLY Screening and Discussion
Students!

Join the Bainbridge High School Students Against Sexual Assault Club (SASA) and the Port Townsend Film Festival in welcoming Emily Lindin and her award-winning documentary film, "UnSlut," to Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, 550 Winslow Way E. A moderated discussion about bullying, sexual assault and gendered discrimination will follow the screening.

The Port Townsend Film Festival screened UnSlut at its 2016 Festival in September, hosting Lindin for four days of screenings, all-school assemblies and discussions at Peninsula College and local high schools, according to PTFF Executive Director Janette Force.

Lindin is founder of The UnSlut Project, an online community where survivors of sexual bullying and slut shaming share their stories, and where girls who are currently suffering find support and solidarity. The Project was inspired by her own experiences. When she was 11 years old, she was labeled a slut by classmates and bullied at school, after school and online.

Lindin uses personal story sharing as a means to work against sexual bullying and slut-shaming in our schools, communities, media, and culture. These shared stories not only provide hope and solidarity to girls who are currently suffering - they demonstrate to us all just how widespread the issues of sexual bullying and "slut" shaming really are, she says.

A Harvard graduate, author and recent PhD., Lindin began The UnSlut Project by blogging her own middle school diaries. This led to an online community, book, film and personal appearances throughout the world. Now living in Southern California, Lindin is Teen Vogues sexual wellness columnist and has been featured on ABC, CNN, The Doctors and others.

Both events are supported by Bainbridge Youth Services, a local nonprofit that offers free and confidential mental health counseling, career and tutoring services to teens.
