The Drinking & Writing Festival 2012

The Drinking & Writing Theater holds the 8th annual Drinking & Writing Festival on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Drinking & Writing Theater at Haymarket Pub & Brewery.

This year's festival focuses on The Beats. Drinkers and writers like Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti will be spotlighted all day. Performers form 16th Street Theater will present pieces written by Allen Ginsberg, Diane Di Prima, Gary Snyder, John Chellon Holmes, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Bill Savage from Northwestern University will talk about The Beat Generation.

There will also be tapping of the special collaboration beer whose recipe was created during The Brewers Summit: The Drinking & Writing Anniversary Beer event in June by local breweries including Haymarket, Goose Island, Revolution, Half Acre, Rock Bottom, Dry Hop and more. The beer was brewed in September specifically for the 10th anniversary of Drinking & Writing and named Naked Lunch in honor of the William S. Burroughs' novel of the same name.

This year's coveted Drinking & Writing Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drinking & Writing goes to author of God Is Not Great, Christopher Hitchens. Previous recipients include Rick Kogan and Studs Terkel.
