Grand Homes of Vallejo Tour
3rd ANNUAL GRAND HOMES of VALLEJO TOUR
HISTORICAL HERITAGE DISTRICT
Have an Alice in Wonderland experience and visit some of Vallejo's most charming landmarks and architectural wonders!
Visit beautiful Craftsman, Victorian and Colonial historical residences. Several homes designed by Vallejo's notable architect William A. Jones, including a shingled Craftsman house still in his family.
The Julia Morgan mansion in the First Bay Tradition is also part of this year's Tour. Morgan, the first woman architect in California, is famed for her designs of the buildings in William Heart's palatial castle complex at San Simeon. She also designed the reconstruction of the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake there.
Be entertained in the homes by musicians from Solano Community Symphony, other local performers, and CA Maritime Academy Cadets; while enjoying the beauty of these historic properties, guests may also get a surprise visit by Santa, the Mad Hatter Mascot, the Cheshire Cat, or the Lion King!
Tickets support the Mad Hatter Holiday Festival, Parade & Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in Vallejo (Facebook Page: MadHatterHolidayFestival).
Reception: 3-5pm at Dance Unlimited (510 Georgia Street) in the Grand Ballroom (food & wine) music by Darrell Edwards, hosted by CA Maritime Cadets.
Self-Guided Tour 4-8pm (all walking distance)
Wander down the rabbit hole to the ultimate Man Cave and to the Old City Hall (now Vallejo Naval & Historical Museum) and end your day at the Wonderland Parlor in Alice's Palace. The Museum preserves and exhibits the diverse and exciting history of the City of Vallejo and the former U.S. Naval Shipyard at Mare Island.
Their current exhibit is "Wherever There's A Fight: A History of Civil Liberties in California." Spanning the period from the Gold Rush to the post-9/11 era, this new exhibit tells the hidden stories of unsung heroes and heroines throughout California who stood up for their rights in the face of social hostility, physical violence, economic hardship, and political stonewalling. The current exhibit open especially for Tour goers is on the history of the civil rights movement.
