An educational fundraising event hosted by the New York Harm Reduction Educators (NYHRE) with Physician, Author and Public Speaker Dr. Gabor Maté. Please visit our Facebook event page for more information and to RSVP: https://www.facebook.com/events/775462509271791/

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New York City was hit by a record number of drug overdose deaths this past year. Dr. Gabor Maté, drawing on his twelve years of experience with drug-dependent people in Canada, has an alternative theory to contribute to our life-saving efforts in the community. In a talk based on his award-winning and #1 national bestselling book, "In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction," Dr. Maté will present his biopsychosocial theory on addiction and discuss how we can approach the issue of drug addiction with compassion.

Much of  his experience is rooted in his work with Vancouvers Supervised Injection Site, and so Dr. Maté is certain to bring a novel take on these issues to New York. With Seattle recently approving the nations first safe-injection sites, this talk could not be coming at a better time to build momentum for a national movement towards compassionate care for drug-using people.

Proceeds from the event will go to support the NYHRE Holistic Health Program, which helps people improve their quality of life through offering services such as acupuncture, massage, meditation, art and music therapy, and qi gong while restoring dignity, humanity and social connections. To learn about more of the work that NYHRE conducts for the community, you can visit their site here: http://nyhre.org

Dr. Maté will be signing books after the Q&A. Refreshments will be available at the start of the event.
