An Afternoon in the Pardee Home Carriage House - The Pardee Love Letters

Love Letters was a 1989 play by A. R. Gurney that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play centers on two characters, sitting side by side at tables, reading correspondence in which over nearly 50 years they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments. The play has been a vehicle for high profile actors, i.e. Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, showcasing the affection and history of a couple throughout their life-time.

The Pardee Home Museum will present a late afternoon presentation of our own version of this charming concept ~ the reading of the love letters between Enoch and Mary Pardee in the mid 19th Century. Author Dennis Evanosky and Ann Brown, both ardent supporters of the Pardee museum will read the words these two historic Oakland residents wrote in the early years of their courtship, pre-marriage and building the home in 1868, that is now the Pardee Home Museum. The program will begin with a short musical interlude featuring classical guitarist Kyler Svendsgaard and ending with more music followed by a lovely reception with hors d'oeuvres and champagne in the main house Dining room. A perfect prelude to St. Valentine's Day! All proceeds from this event go to the museum.
