HIMSS New York State - Student Poster Presentation Competition

This is the first HIMSS NYS Student Nursing Informatics Conference entitled, "Patient-Centered: Nursing Informatics." The major objective is to enhance the knowledge acquisition of participants related to the meaningful and proficient use of technology that transforms strategies for the delivery of patient-centered care. A nurse Informaticist is prepared to practice in varied roles that incorporate the integration of nursing, computer and information science (i.e., CIN, education, consultant, implementation specialist, clinical analyst, project manager, researcher, and system analyst) to communicate and manage data that ultimately results in effective decision-making and the delivery of quality patient-center care (ANA, 1992).

Thus, we invite nursing informatics students to submit abstracts/applications to be presented during the poster board session on one of the topics as listed below; focusing on patient-centered nursing informatics and the use of technology.

Current research on the use of patient-centered informatics
The application technologies designed to enhance patient-centered care in varied health care settings.
Health Information Exchange updates that bring together health records and support services
Education initiatives focused on patient-centered care that incorporate technology in health care settings and/or higher-education
Best clinical practices incorporating informatics in the delivery of patient-centered care
Product design and development for patient-centered care
Project management initiatives focused on patient-centered care
Analysis of systems related to effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of patient-centered care
Strategies used in the maintenance and evaluation of systems used in practice

The information gained will generate continued dialogue and research that will enhance the quality of patient-centered care, delivered by the nurse informaticist. As a result of the advancements in patient-centered technology, patients may become more self-sufficient and able to remain in their home environment during the restoration of health.
