Many Westerns have been remade over the years, including 3:10 to Yuma. Two versions were released fifty years apart, and although both were well-received, fans and critics seem to agree that the original is the superior film.
In the original 3:10 to Yuma, Van Heflin stars as a rancher desperate to provide for his family. When a ruthless killer (Glenn Ford) is arrested, Heflin reluctantly agrees to escort the outlaw until the train heading to the territorial prisoner arrives. A tense, psychological battle ensues as the two men anxiously await the train.
This month's program features a special treat! Before the movie, Glenn Ford's son, Peter Ford, will be in conversation with Jeffrey Richardson, the Autry's Gamble Curator of Western History, Popular Culture, and Firearms, about his father's career and life. Mr. Ford wrote a biography of his father, Glenn Ford: A Life, and he will be available after the talk to sign copies of the book, which will be for sale in the lobby.
