Jacqueline Schwab with Willie Sordillo at the Homegrown Coffeehouse
Pianist Jacqueline Schwab creates spirited and meditative arrangements on traditional and vintage tunes from America, England, Scotland and beyondspinning out stories, in her variations on the themes -- Scots and Irish songs and dance tunes brought over by settlers, hymns and spirituals, ragtimeplus Latin waltzes and tango, Billie Holiday blues, Celtic music, and klezmer music. Schwab has performed on over a dozen of Ken Burns documentaries, including his Grammy-winning Civil War, his Emmy-winning Baseball, Lewis and Clark, Mark Twain, The War, The National Parks, and Dust Bowl.
Appearing with Schwab will be saxophonist Willie Sordillo. Willie began playing saxophone at the age of nine, studying first with Pop Bethel, a former member of the legendary John Philip Sousa Marching Band. Years later, he pursued his love for jazz studying theory and technique with nationally acclaimed reed master Billy Novick. His early love of the playing of Paul Desmond, and later Stan Getz is evident in his warm, mellifluous tone and flowing lines, though his unique sound is inspired as well by the innovations of two other heroes, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane.
