Saturday. January 28, 4 PM
Violin and Harpsichord Recital:
A Baroque Journey through the Enlightenment

Marina Fragoulis, Baroque Violin
Aymeric Dupré la Tour, Harpsichord

Works by Corelli, Bach, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, Couperin and more
Played on period instruments.

The concert will feature a Sonata by an extraordinary historic figure: the Chevalier de Saint-Georges, a gifted mulatto who became nothing less than Marie-Antoinette's music teacher, a virtuoso violinist and also a quasi-invincible fencer. This music survived the post-mortem destruction of his musical output by Napoleon in his rage against black rebels in Haiti.

Ciaccona     Bernardo Storace
Violin Sonata in E minor, BWV 1023, 1714-17? (Excerpts)   Johann Sebastian Bach
First Suite in D minor (Excerpts)   Louis Marchand
Premier Concert (First Concert [Suite]) [in G] from Les Concerts Royaux,  François Couperin
Third Sonata in G minor, op. 1a, no. 3Joseph Bologne,    Chevalier de Saint-Georges
Sonata in D, op. 5, no. 1   Arcangelo Corelli

Marina Fragoulis is the founder and Artistic Director of Dorian Baroque, a conductor-less chamber orchestra that performs on period instruments.  Dorian Baroque has established itself as a leading early-music organization in New York, presenting concerts with internationally renowned artists and nurturing a series of educational outreach programs for young performers.  Marinas interest in early music led her to study historically informed performance practices at the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute and the Amherst Early Music Festival.  An active chamber musician, Marina has collaborated with Biber Baroque and is a member of the all-female ensemble SIREN Baroque.  She has performed in orchestras and ensembles throughout New York City under the baton of many noted conductors.  A dedicated music educator, Marina holds teaching positions at the Dalton School and the InterSchool Orchestras of NY and is the senior violin Teaching Artist of Midori & Friends.  Marina is a graduate of the Mannes College of Music.

Aymeric Dupré la Tour, a native of Lyon, France, studied music at an early age at the Conservatoire National de Région.  After both earth-science and organ-performance studies in Paris, he earned an Artist Diploma in organ and a Masters in historical performance at Oberlin College, OH, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the Juilliard School, NY.  His performances have taken him across France, the United States, Canada, and South America in venues such as Weill Hall, Carnegie Hall. Dr. Dupré la Tour plays as principal for harpsichord/organ/piano with the Chamber Orchestra of New York, Ottorino Respighi.  He also organizes concert series as Artistic Director of the New London Maritime Museum and the North Stonington Historical Society.  Dupré la Tour works as Musical Curator at Zuckermann Harpsichords International in Stonington and Assistant Organist at St Theresa Roman Catholic Church, Trumbull.
