The 418 Project Presents: 3 Weeks: My Father's Last Dance with Juliebeth Ingraham
Juliebeth Ingraham sits in the 418 Project watching her dancers rehearse and remembers her dad telling her, "If there's a door open, then always walk through it." When this twenty-seven year old dancer, choreographer and UCSC graduate was chosen as The 418 Project's 2012 Next Frontier Artist, she took his advice and walked through its doors to honor her father's legacy. This October, Ingraham premieres her original dance performance, "3 Weeks: My Father's Last Dance" to pass on his final lesson: Courageously live every precious moment.

Through dance, music and song Ingraham weaves a story of the living and dying, caregivers and the patient, humanity and treatment. "The show is inspired by what I went through loving someone with a terminal illness, and how that's shifted my life experience." Ingraham's voice is clear as she talks about her dad's recent passing on July 3, 2012.  "The complexity of terminal illness can become an ally, giving you time to reflect and be with ones you really love and who really love you."

Juliebeth's choreography illuminates moments when humanity triumphs in a world that can get swept up in sterilization, chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, needles, medications' physical and emotional side effects, and clinical trials. She highlights the precious moments of clarity, presence and connection with friends and family as the balance between life and death hangs in the hands of conflicting needs and desires. "When my father began hospice, he softened a lot. There was less tension. I could feel him; he was more emotionally available. I would ask him about his dreams and what he was seeing and hearing. Towards the very end we would sing him songs every night and find ourselves laughing and crying at the same time. We couldn't finish a song."

Juliebeth skillfully portrays a subject we often shy away from and has created a performance not to be missed. If you are someone who has been touched by the experience of terminal illness you will not want to miss this poignant and authentic experience and will be inspired to live life one precious moment at a time.
