Chris Pahud & The Homegrown Band

It will be a "Return to Our Needham Roots" season opener for the Homegrown Coffeehouse on September 29th, when one of the longest-running venues in the country celebrates the start of season number thirty at First Parish in Needham. Chris Pahud will be the feature act, backed by the Homegrown Band and special guest Ken Batts. After a decade of opening for top nationally touring folk acts, Chris has really come into his own as a performer of Americana and roots music, mixed with some terrific original material. His latest album, "Red Sky in the Morning", has gotten a lot of play and great reviews on Boston-area folk radio.

Chris was born and raised in Needham, as was Homegrown Band bass player John Gotthardt. Beth Sargent on vocals and Jim Sargent on guitar arrived in Needham in 1974 and have raised their three children there. Guitar and mandolin player Dave Blom has lived in Needham since 1984. Even special guest Ken Batts on accordion has a Needham connection -- he lives in "West Needham", next to Ridge Hill. The Homegrown Coffeehouse was launched by Jim and Beth Sargent in 1983 to tap into what was fast becoming a "folk revival" in the United Sates. Twenty-nine years later, it's still going strong. The Homegrown Coffeehouse is located at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, at the corner of Great Plain and Dedham Avenue in Needham center.
