Taxim, technique, musicality, phrasing, rhythm and expression.
Learn to be in moment, hear, feel and express different aspects of the music and where to put what.. This workshop will create more understanding of how to hear live music and recorded music as well.

Workshop descriptions:
--Friday night...Shimmies & Zills, Combos & Drills--
Learn new combos. and enhance your zill playing skills.
We'll dance while playing accapella, to a few drum rhythms and
to the song Tamra Henna (a favorite songs to play zills to)
Also...PLEASE NOTE that all movements and combos can be added to your repertoire to be used with or without zills.

THIS CLASS IS FOR ALL LEVELS OF ZILL SKILLS
**please don't hestitate to attend because you think you cannot play well enough. Rafi'ah will teach simple modifications while more advanced players enhance with more complexity

--Saturday- Taxim & Musicality with Meg & Rafi'ah..
Recognize symbols, patterns, phrasing, rhythmic layers, subdivisions, high/low notes & tempo changes then interpreting thru movement

.--A NEW ASPECT that we haven't really focused on before...
How to transition smoothly from one phrase or combo to another so that it all flows. Allowing your body to prompt you into your next move or sequence of movements and working with movement progressions. It's more of an organic process than you think, especially when you tune in and don't think.

--Find clues in the music that prompt you to move in certain ways and at certain times. Rafi'ah and Meg will guide you to be aware of these cues and demonstrate what type of moves to put where.

--Percussion, palmas and taxim circle with dancing
with Meg on clarinet and a few willing workshop participants taking turns keeping the rhythm on a drum or percussion instrument..
...and you know how it goes with taxim... whatever else happens!!

--Sunday... Slow Movement Sanctuary,
;Breathing, Performing & Expression
..YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A PERFORMER OR HAVE A DESIRE TO PERFORM TO BENEFIT FROM THIS WORKSHOP.

Starting with slow movement, arms, torso and co-ordinated breathing, we will connect to a feeling of flow and relaxation that goes beyond thoughts.

Then we'll be ready for "Maqams, flavors & feelings"
...Performing tips,& expressing what the music says to you.
To music with varying moods, go deeper into projecting emotion, putting your own spin on things, capturing your audience and drawing them into your heart.
