WANDERKOOKS FIELD NOTES on DANCE featuring Sojoy and Sarah Duclos
WANDERKOOKS FIELD NOTES on DANCE featuring Sojoy and Sarah Duclos

Circulus and the Dance Hall Kittery present an exploratory evening of music and dance with Jonny Peiffers Sojoy and choreographer Sarah Duclos in the premier performance of WANDERKOOKS FIELD NOTES: AN EXPEDITION IN 3 PARTS.

Sojoys bandleader Jonny Peiffer began the Wanderkook Project in February of 2007 with artist Dean Diggins. The work chronicles the adventures of Oliver Z. Wanderkook and his discovery of 9 tribes in a strange new land. Peiffers original score, and Diggins original illustrations, have informed the work of choreographer Sarah Duclos as she recreates the Dances of the Tribes, with the help of dancer Jessica Soucy.

WANDERKOOKS FIELD NOTES: AN EXPEDITION IN 3 PARTS is a work-in-progress series inviting audiences to experience and participate in the development of THE WANDERKOOK PROJECT. Later this spring, Circulus will present FIELD NOTES on WORDS at the Word Barn in Exeter, and FIELD NOTES on DISCOVERY, a community-based open-air audience immersion. The series will culminate with Wanderkook: The Adventures of Oliver Z. at West End Studio Theatre June 16-25, co-produced by New Hampshire Theatre Project.

Sarah Duclos, a Seacoast native performer and choreographer, holds a BA in Theatre and Dance from UNH, and studied ballet, modern and jazz at Ballet New England and Ballet Theatre Workshop under teachers Mihailo Djuric, Susan Duffy, Christine Jacques and Ralph Hamilton. Duclos worked directly with Liz Lerman Dance Exchange during their two year residency leading up to The Shipyard Project - sparking a lifelong interest in site-specific, community-based dance work. Her company Neoteric Dance Collaborative has performed Duclos choreography on stages in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and at Lincoln Center. Duclos teaching credits include master teaching artist for Boston Ballets Education and Community Initiative and faculty at Phillips Exeter Academys department of Theater and Dance.

Jonny Peiffer is a composer, arranger, drummer/pianist and teacher living and working in the Seacoast area since 95. Peiffer formed Sojoy in 14, and is the co-founder of many other projects like Shango Afro-Beat Orchestra, Desert Island Live (presenting live performances of albums by Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits), Aporkalypse Now, among others. His compositions have been performed in theaters throughout ME and NH, as well as Dance Theatre Workshop in NYC. Peiffer graduated from UNH with a BA in Music Performance (Piano) in 05 and is currently on the faculty at Portsmouth Music and Arts Center. Also trained as a dancer, Peiffer has performed in many Drika Overton/MaD Theatricals productions and is a former member of the UNH Dance Company under Gay Nardone. Dance is usually at the forefront of many of his projects.

Circulus creates interactive, multidimensional performance works through inter-disciplinary collaboration. The Wanderkook Project incorporates work by Catherine Stewart, CJ Lewis, Dan Beaulieu, Dean Diggins, Jonny Peiffer, Sarah Duclos, and Sara Peiffer. Stay tuned for the next stop on the journey and all the exciting ways you can interact with Kook along the way by liking the project at facebook.com/wanderkook and following @OZWanderkook on Twitter and Instagram.
