ISSUE Year End Party: Id M Theft Able / Lea Bertucci & Chris McIntyre
2016 has been a momentous year for ISSUE Project Room. Anticipating the beginning of a second stage of renovations on our theater in 2017, ISSUE was able to program back in our historic 22 Boerum location, presenting more than 60 events featuring over 150 artists. We commemorate the near close of the season with a special year end event with unclassifiable sound artist Id M Theft Able, and a special presentation of two new compositions from sound artist/composer Lea Bertucci and performer, composer and curator Chris McIntyre. Entrance is $5 with RSVP, free for ISSUE Members + Students, with an open bar for ISSUE Members.

Known for his insubordinate and virtuosic improvisational approach to electroacoustic music, Id M Theft Able's performances consist of stream-of-consciousness vocal technique, performative manipulations and gestures with collected objects, as well as the use of an amplified wire and wood sculpture that amasses echos, shrieks, crashes, and creaks -- assembling all manner of media sources. His works fit into an expansive visual universe and release history collected in mangdisc, an audiovisual label that serves as a vehicle for distribution (including a found series) that releases modest quantities of individualized works presented in whatever medium is available at the time. Recent releases have included A  named Spooky (released as a cassette and OKcupid profile), Paying $10/hour to dig a hole in Monroe, and Jewel case for a Pussycat Dolls CD, sans disc, sits patiently in the dirt. Id M Theft Able makes his ISSUE debut with a primarily improvised performance revealing his unique process.

Lea Bertucci and Chris McIntyre debut two new works performed by Bertucci on bass clarinet, alto sax, and tapes and McIntyre on trombone and synthesizer.

Boerum moraine, a new work by McIntyre made specifically for this collaboration with Bertucci is alluvium music made with low frequencies and other auditory debris. Reeds and trombone are heavily mic-ed to better equip their sound in negotiating the topographical contours of the soundtrack. Moraines are whats left after the glacier melts.

Our Collective Cynicism is a Product of Failed Revolution is a piece for amplified trombone and tape written by Bertucci and developed in collaboration with McIntyre. The piece is a meditation and sonic metaphor for the limits of perception of changing external conditions. At a time when many are asking "how did we get here?" the piece examines the way that listeners adjust to glacial changes in sound, just as the changing conditions of our society are what we have come to accept as the norm.

Id M Theft Able performs within and without the realms of noise, avant-improvisation, sound poetry, performance, etc. using voice, found objects, electronics, and whatever else is available. He has given hundreds of performances across four continents in various settings. http://kraag.org/

Lea Bertucci is a sound artist, composer and performer whose work describes relationships between acoustic phenomena and biological resonance. Her work incorporates multi-channel speaker arrays, electroacoustic feedback, extended instrumental/vocal technique, and tape collage. As an instrumentalist, she takes an idiosyncratic approach to the amplification of woodwind instruments, creating organic yet electrified sonic interventions. Her debut solo LP, Resonance Shapes, was released in 2013 on the Obsolete Units label and has been praised by A Closer Listen as "A grand exploration of the possibilities inherent in sound. She was a 2015 ISSUE Project Room Artist-in-Residence and is a Harvestworks New Works Fellow. Her discography includes a number of solo and collaborative releases on various underground independent labels in the US and Europe.

Christopher McIntyre is Brooklyn-based performer, composer, and curator/producer. He interprets and improvises on trombone and synthesizers. Projects including TILT Brass (Director), Ne(x)tworks, UllU, and Either/Or Ensemble. www.cmcintyre.com
