SEPTEMBER FILM CLUB
The Instituto Cervantes of Chicago, presents this new activity that involves the projection of 4 Spanish films, Habana Blues by Benito Zambrano, American Visa by Juan Carlos Valdivia, Martin Hache by Adolfo Aristarain and Chico and Rita by Fernando Trueba. All of them received awards in various international festivals, and they all represent different views on the subject of Latin American immigration to countries like Spain or the United States different motivations and different experiences. The screenings will be followed by a discussion of the film, trying to create a conversational atmosphere perfect for sharing different views and practice your Spanish.

Martin Hache: Martin Echenique (Federico Luppi) is an Argentine film director who has been living in Madrid over twenty years. He hates his country and refuses to indulge in nostalgia. Following the family tradition, his son also named Martin, but everyone calls him Hache (Juan Diego Botto) is 19 and lives in Buenos Aires with his mother. Hache does not work or goes  to school, he spends his days loitering and playing his electric guitar. After five years without seeing each other, they meet again in Buenos Aires when Hache suffers a serious accident. The former wife of Martin, who has a new family in which there seems no room for Hache, proposes that the boy lives with his father. In Madrid two people are waiting for them: Alicia (Cecilia Roth), Martin's mistress, a woman much younger than him and quite sick of being with a man who is unable to make any compromises, and Dante (Eusebio Poncela), an actor which is the best and almost only friend of Martin, whose greatest pleasure is to live on a tightrope.
