Kantorei Christmas: Heaven's Gate
Join us for an afternoon of masterful polyphony by the great Josquin des Prez (1450-1521). Prefaced by the 8th century chant, we will perform Josquin's great Missa Ave Maris Stella in two acoustically stunning KC venues. Westport Presbyterian (Saturday) and Visitation Church (Sunday)
"Hail, star of the sea, and fortunate gate of Heaven." The title of the concert comes from the allegory presented in this insightful text. Its mystical metaphor for Mary's ability to literally bring heaven to earth through the birth of her child is quite profound.
In the second half of the program, we will perform some favorite Christmas tracks from our new album "To Bethlehem," recently released by Resonus Classics, as well as a world premier of "This is a Good World" by celebrated composer Bradley Ellingboe.
