Fontbonne University KMOX Book Club with Charlie Brennan: Tony La Russa - One Last Strike
The next Fontbonne University KMOX Charlie Brennan Book Club meeting will feature Tony La Russa, author of "One Last Strike: Fifty Years in Baseball, Ten and a Half Games Back, and One Final Championship Season." The event will take place on Friday, September 28, 9am - 11am, at Stages St. Louis. Charlie Brennan will interview Tony La Russa live at this event.

Each ticket admits one person and includes one copy of "One Last Strike," which guests will receive at the event. Guests will have the option of receiving a pre-signed book or having Tony La Russa sign their books that day. Additional books for signing will be available at the event, and La Russa will sign up to three copies of "One Last Strike" per person. Absolutely NO memorabilia or previous books will be signed.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

After thirty-three seasons managing in Major League Baseball, Tony La Russa thought he had seen it all--that is, until the 2011 Cardinals. Down ten and a half games with little more than a month to play, the Cardinals had long been ruled out as serious postseason contenders. Yet in the face of those steep odds, this team mounted one of the most dramatic and impressive comebacks in baseball history, making the playoffs on the night of the final game of the season and going on to win the World Series despite being down to their last strike--twice.

Now La Russa gives the inside story behind this astonishing comeback and his remarkable career, explaining how a team with so much against it was able to succeed on baseball's biggest stage. But this story is much more than that of a single season. As La Russa, the third-winningest manager in baseball history, explains, their season was the culmination of a lifetime spent studying the game. Laying bare his often scrutinized and frequently misunderstood approach to managing, he explains his counterintuitive belief in process over result, present moments over statistics, and team unity over individual talent.

The end result is a passionate, insightful, and remarkable look at our national pastime that takes you behind the scenes of the comeback that no one thought possible and inside the mind of one of the game's greatest managers.

Question : This event description says that guests will have the option of getting a pre-signed book or having Tony sign their book(s) live that day. And how does the live signing work? Is there a limited number of people that will have that option? And can the book be personalized?
Réponse : Stages St. Louis has a small lobby, so to keep everything moving quickly and keep people comfortable, we'll be calling guests by row to join the signing. The signing portion will take place after the 9am - 11am interview. It's open to anyone who wishes to stay, but for those who have time constraints, they can choose the pre-signed copy instead. He will personalize with the recipient's name only (i.e. "To Jane" but not "To My Number One Fan" etc.).

Question : Just to make sure I understand. I can order 5 books online now for this event with the option of having up to 3 hand signed. Do I have that right? Thanks
Réponse : We recommend just ordering tickets for the number of people who are attending the event using this website. You will have the option of purchasing additional copies when you check in on Friday. You'll be allowed 3 books to stand in line and have signed, with the option of purchasing as many additional pre-signed books as you would like. Thanks!
