Snap on 2&4 w/ Dara Tucker
Friday, September 28 at 8pm, marks the return of vocalist Dara Tucker to the NJW Jazz Cave in her Snap on 2&4 series debut.
Dara Tucker was born into a musical family. So it's no surprise that her love affair with music began at such an early age. The product of a music minister father, and a songstress mother, she began singing in her Tulsa, Oklahoma church at age 5. By age 8 she was playing simple melodies on the piano and soon began accompanying her brothers and sisters at performances. Says Tucker, "We performed as a group in churches and youth events throughout the city. It was a real proving-ground for us. We grew our own musical legs, independent of our parents. That was a very important learning time."
Throughout her college years, Tucker continued to hone her skills as a vocalist and musician. After obtaining a degree in International Business and German studies, she worked for a time in the corporate language-training field, eventually relocating to Interlaken, Switzerland to study German. It was there that Tucker began to write the first of her very personal songs. "I discovered my own creative voice during my time abroad," Tucker says. "That's when I began to realize that true artistic expression comes from a very personal place. You can't fake it. My songwriting speaks of some hard-learned lessons, and long-fought battles." Rather than allow those experiences to breed bitterness and distrust of the world, she channeled them into a unique musical discovery.
A mainstay of the Nashville scene for the past several years, Dara has more recently been touring and playing some of the best known clubs in the country, including shows at the Bluenote and Smoke dinner clubs in New York City.
Dara Tucker's jazz talents and verve are impressive, but she's also comfortable with R&B, blues, gospel and soul. However, her best work falls within the jazz sphere, where Tucker's extensive range, big sound and outstanding timing and delivery are well served on both vintage standards and modern material. - Ron Wynn, The Nashville Scene
The band will play two sets, beginning at 8pm, and admission is $20 for adults / $10 Students with ID.
Advance purchase is highly recommended. Tickets go on sale Monday, Sept. 17 at 10 am, online or by phone at 800-838-3006 (24/7) or at the Workshop, 615-242-5299. A small convenience charge is added to online or 800-number purchases.
Seating is reserved. Management will assign best available seating. If you have particular seating preferences we'll do our best to accommodate. Seating requests can be made online or by phone. (You can indicate a preference in the "Questionnaire" box when checking out.) Seating is a combination of 4-person tables and bar stools. SEE BELOW FOR A VENUE MAP. Parties of less than four may be seated at tables with other patrons.
Policies: The Jazz Cave is a BYOB establishment, with no alcohol or food service. You are free to bring alcoholic beverages and snacks. We sell soft drinks and bottled water. The Jazz Cave is a listening room, and we ask patrons to keep conversation to a minimum and silence cell phones.
