On a Lonely Road: Travelin' with Joni
Performed originally in the fall of 2014 at Dont Tell Mama and again that summer at the Duplex, Remy Blocks "On a Lonely Road: Travelin' with Joni" is a personal exploration of the unfolding of one woman's life as a seeker, a lover, and an artist, with the legendary pop singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell as a guide or patron saint, her songs as the sacred text and the Rough Guide for that particular modern journey.
Block examines her own iconoclastic path from traditional Dallas girl to the unconventional woman she is today living in Brooklyn, still seeking, searching, and reflecting on what it means to live a meaningful and creative life. Upon discovering the songs of Joni Mitchell while in her early 20s, Block found a kindred spirit; another fierce seeker dedicated to turning over every stone of her own psyche and pouring those revelations into a creative, artistic path.
This show weaves the texts of Mitchell's songs and Block's personal narratives into a hypnotic spell, taking the audience to the underworld of the unconscious and inside the deep urges and longings hidden beneath the surface of us all, the tension between the need to connect and the desire for freedom.
In this new version of the show, Block further explores Mitchell's jazz leanings, bringing in a jazz trio--led by Musical Director Gregory Toroian--and updating the song set to allow for a more sophisticated, complex musical experience to mirror the complicated emotions of the uniquely feminine artistic journey.
Striking blond Remy Block took the audience on a sort of journey of the mind, weaving Joni Mitchell's magnificent lyrics and melody lines with Blocks own hypnotic storytelling skills. A Texas native, Remy Block is a versatile artist who has lived in New York since 1999. Remy performs in NYC and the surrounding area as a solo cabaret artist and a member of the rock and roll music collective Murderers' Row. She writes original songs and performs them in her band Rembert and the Basic Goodness, for which she sings and plays accordion. Block also writes cabaret reviews and feature articles on local cabaret performers for the online publication BroadwayWorld.com. She is currently working on her second novel while she seeks to publish her first, a young adult novel entitled Agatha Lamb. In addition, she works as a private tutor at her company The Brooklyn Learning Studio.

Seating at Pangea is communal. Other guests may be seated at the table. There is a $20 per person food or beverage minimum at the tables. DINNER SEATING BEGINS one hour before showtime.
Please arrive one half hour prior to the show and allow additional time if you are planning to have a dinner.
Late arrivals will be seated at managements discretion.
