BIANCA RODRIGUEZ WORKSHOP

Bianca Rodriguez grew up studying Ballet, Spanish Classical, Theatre, and Music. She received her BA from UNM with an emphasis in Flamenco Dance and studied for four years at the National Institute of Flamenco in Albuquerque, NM where she studied with La Tati, Adela Campallo, Inmaculada Ortega, Torombo, and Karime Amaya, and Manuel Liñan. Upon graduating she completed a certification in Hatha Yoga. Her focus in Yoga was breath work and meditation and feels that this gave her dancing a deeper spiritual connection and also helped her recover from common dancer issues such as eating disorders and over training. Bianca has worked and toured with several US Flamenco companies, Santa Fes Juan Siddi, Jerez-native Antonio Granjero, and NY based company Carlota Santana. Biancas favorite teachers have been Juana Amaya, Farruquito, Angelita Vargas, El Torombo and La Truco. While in Spain she was invited to perform in a popular Flamenco venue, La Cueva de Lola, in Madrids city center. In Madrid she studied intensively with La Truco, Antonio Canales, and David Paniagua. Biancas love for movement has led her to completing certifications in Barre, NIA, and most recently, Pilates. While she pursues her dance career these movement forms help broaden her understanding of the body, how to heal injuries, and allow her to explore ways of finding joy and sharing that with others. Bianca currently performs with Austin based company Flamenco India, a 13 piece ensemble which explores the roots of Flamenco with Indian music and dance. In 2015 she was given the opportunity to work with the legendary Jose Mendez in Gilroy, CA along with Myriam Vaquero and Alberto Marques. She is based in Oakland, CA performing and teaching regularly.
