Alastair Moock and Friends in Concert
Saturday, March 4, 2017
$20 Members, $22 Non-Members(General tickets)

Alastair Moock has been compared to John Prine, Steve Forbert, Tom Waits and other rough voices in American roots music. The comparisons miss the fact that his folksy songs about wandering friends, lost loves, and travel have the freshness of a newly opened window. - Acoustic Guitar Alastair Moock is the second coming of John Prine. - Ellis Paul

Twenty years into his performing career, Alastair Moock has managed to carve out a unique niche for himself: He is a songwriter committed to celebrating the roots of American music while knocking down the walls between different audiences, genres and musical traditions.

Like his boyhood hero, Woody Guthrie, Moock believes in the power of music to reach all people  young and old, far and wide.

Moock started performing in 1995, moving from his home outside New York City to the folk haven of Boston. After working his way up through the local coffeehouse and club circuit, he began touring the U.S. and Europe, eventually graduating to renowned events like the Newport Folk Festival and Norways Bergen Music Fest.

Moock has opened and played with a wide variety of musicians, including Greg Brown, Marshall Crenshaw, Cliff Eberhardt, Guy Davis, Taj Mahal, Arlo Guthrie, Lori McKenna, Bill Morrissey, Peter Mulvey, and Ellis Paul.

In 2007 Moock was nominated for a Boston Music Award for Outstanding Singer-Songwriter of the Year. The Boston Globe called him "one of the town's best and most adventurous songwriters" and The Washington Post declared "every song a gem." Moock will appear for this show with Jamie Walker and Paul Kochanski of the Swinging Steaks, playing new Moock music for an upcoming new CD  sure to be a memorable night at SSFMC!
