Wine Wednesdays at Cafe Nordo: Taste of a Lifetime
Simply put, this tasting event is about extraordinary flavor and a rare chance to try exceptional wines.

For this one-time tasting event you will be guided through superior-quality wine regions of the world. The goal is to give us normal mortals a chance to taste what are considered some of the best and most expensive wines in the world: Reserve Champagne, Italian Brunello, Russian River Pinot Noir, and the true rare gem of the evening, a 70 year-old dessert wine (vintage 1946).  All of this for a fair price and not having to order a $150 bottle from a restaurant wine menu in the hopes you like it. (Trust us, you will.)

In short, this is the taste of a lifetime.  You could travel the world and not have a wine lineup like this.

Your host for this grand evening is Tom Hajduk, Café Nordo's Wine Curator and co-owner of Vino Verite wine shop. In Nordo style, Tom blends storytelling, science, humor and history as you taste these beautiful, unusual, and rare wines. A menu will be available to order food (additional cost).  This is a rare, intimate experience and tickets are extremely limited. There are limited spots available, so we encourage you to act quickly.

This evening is a haven for those who want to learn more about wine without feeling foolish about asking basic questions.  We can also openly rail against the stuffy, expert-knowledge-driven image that the wine world likes to propagate.  After all, great wine is to be enjoyed with our favorite company.  It does not elevate unless it is delicious.  The idea is that tasting wine should be fun.

Here is a partial preview of some of the wine regions we will visit through this tasting experience:

Grand Reserve Champagne. Shouldn't every evening begin this way? We will begin with the fantastic and invigorating sparkling wine that is world famous.  Well talk about why it tends to be expensive (the complex process to make Champagne) and why we should be looking to buy what is called Growers Champagne, that is, Champagne that is made in small batches by individual, small growers who care deeply for the results.

Sancerre, the worlds most intense and focused Sauvignon Blanc.  If you have never tried a Sancerre white wine, you must.  It is a defining experience.  We will taste a tangy, clean, vibrant Sancerre from a small family-owned vineyard.

Brunello di Montalcino, Italy.  Once considered Italys most rare wine, this region is now one of the most famous in the world despite being so small.  Total production is under 400,000 cases for the entire growing area.  To put that into perspective, lets pick only one label for comparison:  the Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon exceeds 300,000 cases a year of production, for just one, single wine.

Russian River Pinot Noir.  A distinguished sub-region of Sonoma Valley in California, this unique growing climate has warm days and cool, fog-settled mornings, which leads to gorgeously complex and dazzling wines.  We will taste the last bottles available of a wine for which only 400 cases were made.

Stellenbosch, South Africa.  An area of distinctive soil and climate, South Africa produces some of the most fascinating and appealing wines in the world yet so often we taste only a few examples in the United States.  We will pour a very wine here in the United States, a red blend full of passion and intensity.

1946 Rivesaltes, Aged Dessert Wine from France.  The crown of the evening goes to this incredible wine from France.  At 70 years old, this has a scintillating and fresh flavor profile that will amaze you.  Even we couldn't believe it when we first tasted it.  We will have the last few bottles available for this evening.  Do not miss this chance.
