The Minor Key Concert Series at The Old Church was created to showcase the best singer-songwriters this world has to offer. Genres will range, but the stories will linger. Set in Portlands oldest still standing church, you will find yourself set in one of the most intimate venues around.
We are ecstatic to wrap our fantastic concert series up with the one and only, Edna Vazquez! On Friday, February 17th Vazquez will embrace The Old Church stage with love and open arms.
Edna Vazquez is a Portland-based, openly gay, Latin American singer/songwriter who performs original compositions that pay homage to her international influences with a passion that comes through in every note of her music. Ednas songs are deeply rooted in in universal human emotion providing a message of light, love and cultural healing. Mariachi music is all about emotion, something Edna embodies completely.Her ability to lift the spirits and touch the hearts of each and every audience member is an experience one must see for themselves.
Born in the Mexican state of Colima, then raised in Jalisco, Edna spent half of her life immersed in the culture and music of Mexico and Latin American. In her teen years she left her homeland bringing with her the rich culture of this music to the United States. Her self-discovery and expression came from a blending of these two worlds.
At a very young age Edna knew she could direct her music however she wished. After learning to sing one of her grandmothers favorite songs she discovered she had a naturally strong voice. She also discovered the empowerment her voice could conjure when singing in front of thousands of people.
Winding up in the Portland area she soon began doing just that, instilling a strength of independence in her soul and pouring it into her music. After 34 years of boldly declaring her identity, Vazquez has a clear sense of who she is as a person and artist and the power her music and message.
