Immigration: A Community Conversation
The Historical Society of Rockland County invites you to participate in a

Community Conversation about Immigration

When: Thursday, July 21, 2016, 7:15 SHARP
Where: Community Room, HSRC, 20 Zukor Road, New City
Price: $FREE

From New Netherland to New York, immigrants from every part of the world have made their home in our state. The Historical Society of Rockland County invites you to join us on July 21, from 7:15 to 9 pm, for a Community Conversation about Immigration.

The conversation will focus on a short excerpt from President Lyndon B. Johnsons Remarks at the Signing of the Immigration Bill, followed by an open discussion exploring our shared history as immigrants and the descendants of immigrants and the ways that immigration continues to shape the experience of being American today.

Admission is free, but please note that space at this program is strictly limited. Reservations are required, and a waiting list will be compiled. If you register and find you are unable to attend  the program, please let us know as soon as possible.

This program is made possible by the New York Council for the Humanities.

About the Community Conversation program of the New York Council for the Humanities: Community Conversations promote thoughtful, engaged community dialogue, using a short text and a facilitator from the local community. Our civic life is a shared endeavor that requires the informed participation of all citizens. Community Conversations provide arenas in which people come together for thoughtful discussion and dialogue about shared values as Americanspast, present, and future. Focused on central themes in American life such as service, freedom and democracy, Community Conversations allows New Yorkers to join in discussions that offer an alternative to received wisdom and provide an opportunity to take part in a shared national dialogue.

About the New York Council for the Humanities: The mission of the New York Council for the Humanities is to provide leadership and support across the states intellectual and cultural sectors through grants, programs, networking and advocacy in order to encourage critical thinking and cultural understanding in the public arena. Founded in 1975 as the National Endowment for the Humanities partner in New York State, the New York Council for the Humanities is the sole statewide proponent of public access to the humanities. The Council is a private 501(c)3 that receives Federal, State, City and private funding.
