Bridge & Tunnel Troubadour: Bruce, Billy and Brooklyn
Bridge & Tunnel Troubadour: Bruce, Billy and Brooklyn

A youngish woman sings songs by youngish men -- troubadours of the 70s -- examining what it means to be rich and poor, faithless and loyal, trusting and savvy, a daughter and a mother and a lover. How do we know where we belong if we struggle to fit in anywhere? Who doesn't wish to be someone else, at least part of the time?

How do we ever know the people we love?

Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen battle it out for moral and musical supremacy, with an assist from Betty Smith's classic roman à clef "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." Written by Kyra Miller, directed by Barb Jungr, and musical direction by Tracy Stark.

*

Kyra Miller was raised in Brooklyn by parents from Queens and the Bronx. Her work combines elements of theater, storytelling and cabaret, devoted to American songbook (old and new) sung with a modern sensibility, setting her story against a backdrop of the most moving songs ever written. This is her Pangea debut.

Originally a dancer, she settled on acting due to a case of flat feet. Her theater life has taken her all over the country; acting credits include Seattle Repertory Theater, A.C.T., the Westport Country Playhouse, Southern Rep in New Orleans, the Utah Shakesepare Festival, the 5th Avenue Theater and Portland Stage Company. Other recent theater: The Light in the Piazza (Philadelphia Theater Co., Joe Calarco directing), and "The Man of La Mancha" (Big Easy award, best actress in a musical, New Orleans).

Here in New York, she has performed her own work at Joe's Pub, the Cornelia Street Café and the Metropolitan Room, and has also appeared at Symphony Space, The Pearl, Dixon Place, 100 Grand, the Bushwick Starr and the HERE Arts Center. She was a founding member of the neo-vaudeville act The Fabulists, and a former member of The Woodshed Collective. MFA University of Washington PATP.

"Part cabaret act, part ethno-autobiography, Kyra Miller's "Chosen" is a Philip Roth short story come to life (if Philip Roth were a stunning woman)."  New York Magazine
