Événement

MICHAEL SCHULMAN
Provincetowns Art House Theatre and Producing Director Mark Cortale will present The New Yorker Magazine's celebrated writer Michael Schulman in a free event on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 8PM.  Mr. Schulman will read from his new book Her Again: Becoming Meryl Streep, published by HarperCollins last month, and featured on the cover of the April issue of Vanity Fair magazine.  The evening will also include an audience Q&A  and a screening of the 1979 film Kramer vs. Kramer for which Ms. Streep won her first Academy Award.  Mr. Schulman has contributed to The New Yorker since 2006, where he is the theatre editor of Goings On About Town and has written more than seventy-five Talk of the Town pieces.

The book Her Again is the first thoroughly researched biography of Meryl Streep, the most celebrated actress of her generation, who has been nominated for nineteen Oscars and the winner of three. Mr. Schulmans biography recounts Ms. Streeps beginnings as a young woman of the 1970s, grappling with love, feminism and her own astonishing talent. As an ambitious and promising talent, fresh out of Yales School of Drama and charting her way in the New York theater scene at the time, Ms. Streep was a young beauty known to ride her bike everywhere, keep a diary, nap before performances, and stay out late talking about acting with actors in actors bars. She also shot out of drama school like a cannon, landing in her first season in New York critically acclaimed roles in back-to-back Broadway plays, a Tony nomination, and two Shakespeare in the Park productions. Thus the early reference, from her earliest professional beginnings, as Her, Again.  The book, and the free event with Mr. Schulman, will take an intimate look at the coming-of-age of Meryl Streep, the Iron Lady of acting, from suburban New Jersey high schooler to Vassar and Yale drama student to her star-making roles in The Deer Hunter, Manhattan, and Kramer vs. Kramer.
