PROGRAM
Stravinsky, Fanfare for a New Theatre
Mozart, Bella mia fiamma
Beethoven, Ah! perfido
Stravinsky, Petrushka
After a short fanfare composed by Stravinsky for the opening ceremony of the New York State Theatre (Lincoln Center), our final concert of Season 54 will feature two concert arias by Mozart and Beethoven. These arias were written for the same singer, Josepha Duschek, who was an outstanding soprano of the Classical era. Our special guest to perform them is soprano Robin Fisher, who has been praised with critical acclaim in Paris, Chicago, Vienna, Prague among other cities, for her mature timbre and total self-assurance (Westdeutsche Zeitung). Stravinsky's imaginative score for the ballet Petrouchka tells the story of the loves and jealousies of three puppets. It is one of the most celebrated ballets of the 20th Century, and it was written for Les Ballets Russes. What a wonderful way to finish our 54th Season!
