It Runs In The Family
Feature Documentary  (2015)   46 min   English  Canada
Director Joella Cabalu
Executive Producer Brad Danks
Producers Cari Green and Philip Webb

Starring Jay Cabalu

A young gay Filipino-Canadian artist, Jay Cabalu along with his sister Joella travel from Vancouver, Canada to Oakland, California to Manila, Philippines to meet their other queer relatives to see how they have reconciled their Roman Catholic faith, their sexuality and family relationships. As viewers are invited into Jay's art studio he creates a new collage art piece and reflects back on his journey and its impact on his struggle with being gay and Roman Catholic. It Runs in the Family is an intimate exploration on acceptance and what the modern queer family can be in the Filipino diaspora.

Pamanhikan
Short Narrative - 29 min. English   USA
Director, Executive Producer, Writer Angelo Santos
Producers Cindy Torres, Ruth Sajot-Grover
Co-Producers George Gibson and Steve Mallorca

Starring Eric Elizaga, Patrick Cooley, John Arcilla, Arianne Recto, Bill Hoag, Julia Campanelli

Remember when your parents met your spouse's parents for the first time? For Filipinos, there is a tradition for that. It's called a 'pamanhikan'. For Brendan and Jun, an interracial gay couple, their pamanhikan occurs over brunch. Bringing Jun's supportive mother and ignorant father together with Brendan's disapproving mother and uninvited father doesn't go according to plan when conversations on God, athletics, and gay sex erupt in an argument that, on the surface, is about bridesmaids, but in reality, is about so much more.
