What about the panel process, or something else entirely? Join Owen David, Artist Trust's Grants to Artists Program Coordinator, for a 3-hour workshop about this year's GAP cycle. Plus, participate in a Q&A panel with Artist Trust grant recipients: Pam Kuntz, Roberto Ascalon, and Esther de Monteflores, to discuss how they put their best foot forward.
Instructor:
Owen David is a dancer and choreographer with arts management experience spanning government, higher education, and social sector organizations. He administers Grants for Artists programs at Artist Trust, and is thrilled to be advocating for artists while working to make arts funding more transparent, accessible, and equitable. Owen comes to this role after a brief stint in fundraising, bringing along high-level grant management experience from a past life as a Budget Analyst overseeing capital funding for the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs. He has taught dance technique, composition, and criticism in university settings, and his first gig out of college was for an organization providing underserved youth with after-school programs in arts and entrepreneurship. He moved to Seattle in 2014 after completing graduate studies at Ohio State, where he received an M.F.A. in Dance & New Media, and holds an undergraduate degree in Political Economy from Brown.

Esther de Monteflores:
Esther is a contemporary circus artist, physical performer and choreographer based in Bellingham, Washington. de Monteflores' unique take on circus performance has been seen across North America. Recent highlights include Seattle's Moisture Festival, Circus Sessions in Toronto, Art on the Atlanta Beltline, the 2nd annual Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival and the Vancouver Fringe Festival. In her work, de Monteflores seeks a balance between technical skill and expressive movement. Circus arts allow her to create work that is both intimate and spectacular, using the inherent element of risk to focus attention and spark imagination.
Pam Kuntz:
Pam, MFA, BFA, danced in NYC, Boston, and Montana before joining the dance faculty at Western Washington University in 1999. Dedicated to arts education for children, Pam worked closely with OSPI by helping WA state create assessments for children (CBPAs) and educators (WEST-E). Pam also teaches dance to people living with Parkinson's disease and is the artistic director of Kuntz and Company, a professional dance company working with the community to tell their stories. Pam has received funding from the NEA, the Washington State Arts Commission, and the City of Bellingham among others. Her choreography was recognized by the American College Dance Festival and her film Parkinsons Dreams about Me won best experimental film at the Oregon Independent Film Festival. Pam is the recipient of a 2015 Artist Trust Fellowship, a 2012 Artist Trust GAP award, a 2012 Peace Builder award, a 2011 Ken Gass Community Building Award, and a 2007 Bellingham Mayors Arts Award.
Robert Ascalon:
Roberto teaches performance poetry across Seattle. He is a Kundiman and Jack Straw Fellow, a two-time Seattle Slam Team member and the winner of the 2013 Rattle Poetry Prize for which he was nominated for a Pushcart Award. His residencies have led to text /audio / performance / video / photography exhibitions at Seattle Art Museum, the Frye Art Museum, the North West African American Museum, and The Museum of History and Industry. Roberto served as the inaugural Poet Planner for the city of Seattle, a position which helped revive Seattles beloved Poetry on Buses program. He spends his time between Bellingham where he is a candidate for an MFA in Creative Writing and West Seattle where he lives in an old school building with a beautiful girl, a blackboard and a cat.
