Stephanie Chase and Sara Davis Buechner Play Beethoven
STEPHANIE CHASE AND SARA DAVIS BUECHNER PLAY BEETHOVEN

The Ten Sonatas for Violin and Piano in Three Concerts.

Sara Davis Buechner and Stephanie Chase are a critically-acclaimed duo whose 2011 recital in New York was "One of the Top Twenty Concerts to Hear this Fall" (WQXR) and a "Critics' Choice" (Musical America). Their recording of music by Rudolf Friml (Koch, 2005) has received rave reviews, and their complete Beethoven cycle is scheduled for recording in 2013.

Composed between 1797 and 1812, the ten Sonatas for Piano and Violin are a musical landscape of Beethoven's art, from the strict Classicism of his first Sonata (Opus 12, No.1) through the expressive dynamism of Romanticism (as Beethoven struggled with his own health problems, including deafness) to the majestic serenity of the final Sonata in G Major, Opus 96.

Don't miss this extraordinary series as Chase and Buechner explore Beethoven's genius - his musical innovations, passions, lyricism, humor, and instrumental challenges - in performances uniting compelling musical personalities with scholarship and virtuoso's techniques.  They also provide thoughtfully-written program notes that enhance the audience's experience.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM
"The soloist was the superb violinist Stephanie Chase, who played with elegance, dexterity, rhythmic vitality and great imagination. This was a Classical performance in the best sense: clear-headed, straightforward, intelligent"  (Boston Globe)
Stephanie Chase's recording of Beethoven's Violin Concerto is one of "the twenty most outstanding performances in the work's recorded history" - Robin Stowell, Beethoven: Violin Concerto (Cambridge Music Handbooks, Cambridge University Press, 1998)

"What strikes you immediately about the pianist Sara Davis Buechner is the honesty and integrity of her playing" (Washington Post)
"There is no struggle in Ms. Buechner's supple, articulate and nuanced performances... I can't imagine this music played with more integrity and affection"
(Anthony Tommasini, New York Times)

This special event is presented by the Music of the Spheres Society and Yamaha Artist Services. Sara Davis Buechner plays the Yamaha piano exclusively.
