Chuckanut Radio Hour with Special Guest Cheryl Strayed
The Chuckanut Radio Hour is a radio variety show that began in January 2007. Each Chuckanut Radio Hour features a guest author and includes guest musicians, performance poet Kevin Murphy, Cascadia Weekly columnist Alan Rhodes, an episode of "The Bellingham Bean" serial radio comedy, and some groaner jokes by hosts Chuck & Dee Robinson and announcer Rich Donelly. The Chuckanut Radio Hour's first guest was Erik Larson and has since included Alexander McCall Smith, Elizabeth George, J.A. Jance, Sherman Alexie, Tom Robbins and Garrison Keillor, among many others. The Radio Hour airs every Saturday evening at 6pm and Sunday at 9pm on KMRE 102.3FM.

This month's special guest is Cheryl Strayed for her new books Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar and Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. In Cheryl Strayed's Tiny Beautiful Things, she brings the best of her once anonymous Dear Sugar advice column in one place, including never-before-published columns and a new introduction by Steve Almond.  Rich with humor, insight, compassion, and absolute honesty, this book is a balm for everything life throws our way.

Strayed's powerful, blazingly honest memoir, Wild, is the story of an eleven-hundred-mile solo hike along the Pacific Crest Trail that broke down a young woman reeling from catastropheand built her back up again. At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State, and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than "an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise." But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone. Check out this video about Cheryl and her book Wild:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks_QnNQ__OM&feature=player_embedded.

Cheryl Strayed is the author of the critically acclaimed novel Torch. Her stories and essays have been published in The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post Magazine, Allure, The Rumpus, The Missouri Review, The Sun, The Best American Essays, and elsewhere. She lives in Portland, Oregon.

Tickets for the Chuckanut Radio Hour are $5 and will soon be available at Village Books and BrownPaperTickets.com. Doors open at 6:30pm, and you must be seated by 6:45pm as the show begins promptly at 7pm. Co-sponsored by the Leopold Retirement Residence, 12th Street Shoes, Fairhaven Pizza, and the Fairhaven Village Inn.
