"Duende" loosely translates to charm, spirit or magic. Join us for an evening of works for flamenco and classical guitar, flute and classical Spanish song from Andalucia and other regions, evoking the history and singularity of Spain's southernmost province.

Praised by critics for her lush sound and powerful expression, soprano Christine Moore has performed such roles as Mimi in La Bohème, Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly, Leonora in Il Trovatore, Alice Ford in Falstaff, the title role in Suor Angelica, Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro with such companies as Leipzig Opera, Central City Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Aldeburgh Fall Festival, Utopia Opera and Amato Opera. A Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera national competition she has performed at festivals such as the Narnia Music Festival and Musica in Laguna in Chioggia, Italy, Music on the Borders and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Her orchestral performances include the Verdi Requiem at Symphony Space in NYC, Barber's Knoxville - Summer of 1915 with the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Handel's Messiah, Rossini's Stabat Mater, and Mendelssohn's Elijah. Christine has performed solo recitals throughout the United States, including at the Library at Lincoln Center in NYC, and in Granada and Madrid in Spain with Festival Canción Española, and also enjoys performing works (both song and opera) by contemporary composers, and has premiered many with the Brooklyn New Music Collective and American Composers Alliance in New York. Her recordings include Christine Moore: Arias and an upcoming release of Spanish and Arabic songs on Meridian Records. This past June Christine performed the title role in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos with Utopia Opera in New York and in April will sing the title role in Aida with Lyric Artists of New York. www.christinemooresoprano.com
Flutist Laura Falzon has been featured as soloist in recitals and concerts across Europe, Asia and the USA. Described in the London-based Music & Musicians magazine as "an excellent instrumentalist", her performances include concerto appearances with orchestras and ensembles including Spectrum (dir. Guy Protheroe), St. Martin in the Fields Sinfonia, the British Rasumovsky Quartet, Malta's National Orchestra, The Manoel Theatre Orchestra, among others. Her recordings include the CD Charles Camilleri: Music for clarinet, flute and piano, with the acclaimed British pianist Andrew Ball and British clarinetist David Campbell which includes several flute compositions that composer Charles Camilleri wrote for her. Her recordings have been broadcast on television and radio stations across EuropeBulgaria, UK, Malta, Germany, France Iceland, Finlandand the US. She has also performed in many International Festivals and Symposia, including amongst others Mediterranean Arts Festival, Rencontres de la Mer and Musiques de la Mediterranee (France), Euro-Arab Summer Festival, "Crossroads"International Symposium on the Music of the Mediterranean Region, Malta International Arts Festival, International Festival and Symposium on New Intercultural Music, Bridge Across, Warwick & Leamington Festivals. Laura has collaborated with composers from around the world on new works for flute in a variety of combinations, ranging from the conventional flute solo, flute & piano, and flute & orchestra, to works with electroacoustics as well as non-western instruments like the zheng, sitar, tabla, yoruba drums and tanpura. She has commissioned and premiered many flute works including Padma Phool by the Anglo-Indian composer John Mayer (mostly known as the founder of Indo-Jazz Fusion and, in the flute world, for his flute Concerto for Sir James Galway), and other works by composers such as Eddie McGuire, Theodore Wiprud, Mohammed Fairouz, Shirish Korde, Charles Camilleri, Bushra El-Turk, Akin Euba, and Geoff Poole. www.laurafalzon.com
Pablo Giménez began playing guitar at the age of five, focusing on both classical and flamenco styles with his father, Juan Miguel Giménez. He commenced his formal education in the classical style at age eight and finished his studies at Conservatory Superior Victoria Eugenia in Granada, Spain. At sixteen, he began training at the Conservatory of Flamenco guitar, and is currently studying at the Conservatory Superior Rafael Orozco in Córdoba, Spain, one of the most prestigious music schools of flamenco guitar. Pablo performs in Granada in a "tablao flamenco", one of the traditional flamenco shows, "Venta el Gallo" alongside talented dancers, singers and guitarists. Over the last several years, his performances have included the 2014 Boston Guitar Festival, the International Festival du Cartage in Tunisia, the International Festival Andrés Segovia in Madrid, Project Cançion Española in Granada and Madrid, the Teatro Helena Sá e Costa in Oporto, Portugal and the Festival Veranos de la Villa, Madrid. In 2015, he performed at the Library at Lincoln Center's Bruno Walter Auditorium, where this June he will make his solo debut.
