Small Business Lunch at Halls
The King Street Marketing Group and Halls Chophouse are pleased to welcome internationally acclaimed artist and Charleston favorite, Jonathan Green, as our guest speaker Thursday, February 4th.

Green is one of our nation's outstanding American artists and highly recognized visual master for capturing the positive aspects of American and African American southern culture, history and traditions.

Jonathan Green was selected to design the sets and costumes for Spoleto Festival USA's most expensive and grandest theater production, Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess," a classic work of the American theater whose action is set in Charleston.

Green will discuss his Gullah cultural heritage and how he has chosen to use his perspective in incorporating images for use in the production of "Porgy and Bess."

"Porgy and Bess" will open the Festival's 40th season and have six performances at the new Martha and John M. Rivers Performance Hall at the Gaillard.

A graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1982, Green's art and talents have been incorporated into productions of ballet, music, opera, theatre, literature, film, and video documentaries throughout the United States.

His high level of social interest and cultural commitments and exhibitions have brought him international recognition through his travels and collections throughout North America, Europe, Central and South America, Caribbean, Africa, and Japan.

It is Green's mastery of color and skillful use of the human figure in rural and urban environments, which allows him to preserve and share with the viewer a deep sense of community, and how the life challenges of work, love, and belonging are met.

Additionally, his art has been included in numerous educational publications addressing American and African American history, literature, food-ways, visual arts, and healthcare.

Some of his extensive humanitarian and civic contributions have helped Diabetic research at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Sickle Cell Anemia research Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and medical outreach services in Beaufort County, South Carolina.

When not painting he uses his networking skills to serve on the International African American Museum and World Heritage Committee in Charleston, South Carolina, and many cultural and civic advisory committees throughout the south. Currently Jonathan Green resides and paints in his studio located in downtown Charleston.

Each month, Small Business Lunch at Halls features a distinguished speaker from the business, civic or political arenas upstairs at Halls Chophouse with an imaginative three-course meal prepared by Executive Chef Matthew Niessner.

Tickets are $29 per person plus tax and processing fee for the luncheon. Doors open at 11:30 AM and lunch is served promptly at noon. Limited seating of 90 participants provides an intimate experience with each speaker.

Halls Chophouse is located at 434 King Street in downtown Charleston. Convenient parking is available at the Visitors Center Garage on Ann Street between King and Meeting Streets.
