Brownie Wise
'The Original Tupperware Lady'

A historical portrayal by Leslie Goddard in character as Brownie Wise.

Doors open at 12:00 pm, Tea service commences at 1:00 pm

Brownie Wise propelled Tupperware to skyrocketing success in the 1950s. In this living-history program, Wise as tells the story of her rise from a divorced mother selling cleaning supplies to Vice-President of Tupperware Home Parties. In 1951, Wise had about 200 women selling Tupperware; by 1954, her sales force topped 9,000. When Wise's fame started to eclipse that of Tupperware, she was forced out of the company and largely disappeared. But the Tupperware parties she pioneered remain the gold standard for home party selling.

Leslie Goddard M.A., Ph.D., is an award winning actress and scholar who has been presenting history lectures and portraying famous women in history for more than 10 years.  Goddard holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, specializing in U.S. cultural history, American studies, and women's history as well as a master's degree in theater and in museum studies. A former museum director, she is the author of two books: Remembering Marshall Fields and Chicago's Sweet Candy History. She currently works full time as a historical interpreter, author and public speaker.

Inspiration for this program was Tupperware Unsealed: Brownie Wise, Earl Tupper, and the Home Party Pioneers by Bob Kealing.
