Soaking WET

Dancer/choreographer GARNET HENDERSON, lauded for her past appearances on Soaking WET, returns with her new work The bird has more friends than me, a dance of social posturing. Performed by Rebecca Hadley, Linden Hill, and Henderson, the work asks: "what assumptions do we make when we see three women together? What expectations do we have of their interactions? The trio evokes a long history of pop girl groups, along with the whispers of conflict that have always trailed those groups of successful women.

KAI KLEINBARD's (Feb 5-7) new dance has been inspired by his work with children. Set to a collage of music that includes Aphex Twin and Autechre, Kleinbard will create a character that tunes itself to the sights, sounds, smells and experience of being in a room of onlookers.

LESLIE PARKER (Feb 4) presents Ripen: Forbidden Truth Pt. 2 - In the Flesh, choreographed by Parker and performed by dancers Kei Phillips, Efeya Sampson, and Parker herself, is inspired by the complexity of passion and possession. The movement is a melding of the sacred with the secular, referencing ancient sacred codes/symbols derived from West Africa (and later coopted by Christianity) that represent fertility, rebirth, and the balance of masculinity and femininity.

DAVID PARKER (Feb) brings Nic Petry and Caleb Teicher to the stage with "Two Left Feet." Two dancers find themselves negotiating the phasing intricacies of Steven Reich's seminal "Clapping Music," continually shifting to engage, enrage, entice and insight their partner. Petry and Teicher dodge and parry in a corporeally percussive approach to make their rhythmic points.
