Asheville Fringe Dance Showcase
Lindsey Kelley Dance will perform three pieces in the Fringe Dance Showcase and will be your hosts for the show.
Lindsey Brewer and Kathleen Hahn of Asheville-based professional modern dance company, Lindsey Kelley Dance, are teaming up to perform a brand spanking new duet by New York choreographer, Oliver Steele. Steele's duet (untitled) is dynamic, dramatic and filled with highly technical, feminine movement...m-e-o-w! Inspiration for this piece is based on modern day society's perspective of "beauty."

What does it mean to "feel something in your bones?" Moving Women and strange daughters butoh present a dance work exploring this question, inspired by video interviews of random people's answers. The internal vs. external worlds of the fragility of marrow and viscera are investigated and things are often not what they seem in this experimental performance collaboration by Jenni Cockrell and Kathy Leiner.
Stone Soup
Student-run choreography troupe Asheville in Motion (AiM) investigated the joys, discomforts, awkwardnesses, curiosities, and quiet moments peppered throughout dinner parties in "Stone Soup." A movement exploration with improvisational narration (How long does it take to boil an egg? Did Aunt Helen really say that? Is that the microwave or the fire alarm?), AiM hopes you enjoy digesting the concept as much as we enjoyed cooking it up!

On Your Mark
"On Your Mark" is a competitive duet involving variations of athletic sporting events evolving from commentary on action in real time, through fun competition, and ending in uniformity of a common goal. This comical dance work explores connotations of iconic athletic events in United States' sports film history with light-hearted jests and serious victories.
CJ40 Productions is a contemporary American dance company founded and co-directed by Jill Guyton Nee and Courtney White. The duo celebrates individuality, humor and innate theatricality of everyday life. CJ40 is named after its founders who are separated by 700 miles (Memphis, TN and Raleigh, NC), the two choreographers are connected by Interstate highway 40, which is how the number made its way into the company name.
Redux performed by Brett Copeland and Jacqueline Dugal
Inspired by John Cage's Radio Music and adapted for present day, Redux blends live music and dance. Featuring electro-acoustic performance with tuba and MAX/MSP, the music is a combination of fixed media, live-processing and chance operations. Contemporary modern dance with focus on floor work, imagery, and release technique embodies the music. An abstract storyline of child-like perspective during time of destruction drives the movement.
