A Concert for MLK in LNC
Composer/pianist Krystal Grant and cellist/composer Noah Hoffeld take the stage to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on MLK weekend. Beautiful original compositions raise the question, "What is Freedom?" and create space to reflect on the meaning and daily application of Dr. King's message.
Composer-pianist Krystal J. Grant's career has broadened from giving lecture-recitals in elementary schools of her hometown, Birmingham, Alabama to presenting multimedia installations in New York City. She has performed at experimental venues in Brooklyn and participated in arts festivals in Florida, Kentucky, and Ohio. Besides college classrooms, she has taught in after-school programs, a homeless shelter, and a senior center. She majored in piano performance and Spanish at Vanderbilt University, where she developed her passion for the rhythmic arrays of Cuban music and the motivic moderation of Shostakovich. With her Ph.D. in composition from Stony Brook University, she currently teaches composition, theory, and piano in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, while sharing life with others through making music.
Noah Hoffeld's passionate love songs and power ballads deliver his message that now is the best time for us to breathe and tune into who we are. Baeble Music says his "Cello Rock is the new sound you never new you needed." As a featured cellist, he plays for the likes of Renee Fleming, Philip Glass, Bebel Gilberto, and Brad Mehldau and records solos for films and tv like The Skeleton Twins (starring Kristin Wiig and Bill Hader), and Showtime's Happyish. Noah's new album of original songs, Play Human, is available everywhere.
