Pegasus Theater Company presents "Don Juan in Chicago" by David Ives

Pegasus Theater Company presents Don Juan in Chicago, written by David Ives and directed by Alexis Evon Christenson. The show opens February 12 and runs through February 28 at the Graton Community Club, 8996 Graton Road in downtown Graton.

Don Juan in Chicago is a hilarious farce -- a mash-up of myths and legends about the womanizing Don Juan and Faustian bargains, written in David Ives' trademark brilliant wordplay (warning: there are some rhyming couplets in this play).

When the play opens in 1599 in Seville, 30-year old, still virginal Don Juan sells his soul to the devil for immortal life so he can quench his thirst, not for sex, but for learning everything there is to know and the meaning of life to boot. But the devil insists on a deal point: Don Juan must bed a different woman by midnight every day of his never-ending life. Oh, and Don Juan adds the soul of his servant Leporello to the bargain, just so things can be kept tidy.

We then fast forward 400 years and 146,000 women later and find Don Juan (now known as Don Johnson) on the South Side of Chicago with his trusty servant (now called Lefty). Our anti-hero is exhausted by the daily seductions. Even worse, he's fallen in love and the devil is sensing victory. Will Don Juan/Johnson be saved from the fiery pits of hell? Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 8 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. General admission is $18; except tickets for the matinee on Sunday, February 14, which is a Valentine's Day Chocolate Gala with complimentary confections by Noel's Cakes, cost $25; and Friday, February 19, is pay-what-you-can (pay-what-you-can performance tickets are available on a walk-in basis only).

This play contains mature themes and strong language.
