Having reigned as the Queen of Quips at the Algonquin Hotel's Round Table during the Roaring Twenties, Dorothy Parker takes on her next adventure: Tinseltown. But not before meeting her longtime partner in witty rhyme, Robert Benchley. Together, they assess their fellow wisecrackers Alexander Woollcott, Franklin Pierce Adams, Edna Ferber, George S. Kaufman, and (yes) Harpo Marx, and in the course of their recollections, Parker reveals her not-so-platonic attraction to Benchley.
Starring longtime White Barn performer (and Executive Director) Becca Smith as Dorothy Parker and David Garden Jr. (the Barn's programming director) as Robert Benchley, John Sullivan's short play assembles well-known quotes and witticisms from a host of sources, documenting the history of the Algonquin Round Table and the many literary figures and celebrities who frequented the hotel's dining room. Their bons mots and witticisms still crackle and sparkle with a truly American style of humor.
Two performances only: Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 10, at 3 p.m.
