Blues Night at 16th Street House
Moonshine Society delivers high energy roots rock, blues, and old school R&B in a style guaranteed to keep audiences dancing, toes tapping, and the drinks flowing. An international sensation often compared to Susan Tedeschi, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and Teena Marie, the band is comprised of A-List players including three inducted members of the Blues Hall of Fame (2012) and several Berklee College of Music alumni. Members include Black Betty (The Blues Pinup), Ron Holloway (Allman Brothers, Susan Tedeschi Band, Dizzy Gillespie), and Barry Hart (Danny Gatton).

The Society's debut album "Live in Shanghai" was released independently in late 2011. The full length album was recorded at the House of Blues and Jazz (Shanghai, China) after Chinese film star Lin Dong Fu (owner) personally selected and invited the band for a three month stay. Although a favorite at many college rock venues, they've really made waves in the international blues scene thrilling audiences at festivals with a fresh, younger take on the classic American roots style.

The band has performed with Johnny Winter, Tab Benoit, George Clinton & Funkadelic, Snoop Dogg, Peaches, Roomful of Blues, WuTang Clan, Everclear, Puddle of Mud, Drowning Pool, and more. In Washington, DC, they've been the featured band of blues after parties for artists including Blues Traveler, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Allen Toussaint, and Mavis Staples. Members of the Society have performed and recorded with artists such as John Mayer, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Betty Lyvette, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Nighthawks, Brian Eno, and Pinetop Perkins, among others.

Eli Cook took up the guitar as a teenager in the Blue Ridge foothills of Virginia. Following the tradition of the great blues men, he performed in churches and late-night gospel revivals with only his acoustic and deep baritone voice, while playing every hole-in-the-wall bar that could handle his electric power trio.  Blending the influences of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Fred MacDowell, Bukka White and Lightning Hopkins with the likes of Clutch, Soundgarden, C.O.C, and Rage against the Machine, he forged a fresh sound, alive with the southern blues tradition.

Eli recorded and released his first two albums between 2004 and 2007:  the all-acoustic, original-roots album "Miss Blues' Child" on the Sledgehammer Blues label, and a heavy blues-rock release  "ElectricHolyFireWater".   During this time he was invited to open for B.B. King on King's east coast tour.  Since then, Eli has shared the stage with Johnny Winter, Robert Cray, Parliament-Funkadellic, Gary Clark JR, Roomful of Blues and many others. In 2008,  Eli released his third self-produced album, "Static in the Blood", a modern R&B/Rock crossover project featuring ornate experimental studio production.  The follow up album, "Ace Jack & King", a return to roots-blues and heavy guitars, received critical acclaim. The All Music Guide proclaimed that Eli could be "the best blues singer of his generation."

In 2013, Eli signed with LA-based label Cleopatra Records to begin work on his 5th studio album, featuring guest appearances by rock legend Leslie West of Mountain, Artimus Pyle (Lynyrd Skynyrd)  Reese Wynans of Double Trouble, Vinny Appici (Black Sabbath, Ronnie James Dio) and Tinsley Ellis. The album was released in Spring 2014.

Jonny Grave is a guitarist, songwriter, singer, bandleader, busker, teacher, musical historian, and Bluesman from Washington DC. Growing up in a very musical family, Grave was introduced to the sounds of American traditional folk music early on. At age fifteen he found himself learning slide guitar techniques from old Blues records, and by seventeen he was performing them live.

The distinct sound that Jonny Grave's music conjures is a resurrection of sortsThe music of R. L. Burnside, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Robert Johnson and Bukka White all find a way into Grave's playing style. His repertoire of sound is made up of new arrangements of older Blues tunes, and deeply rooted solid originals.

In 2009, after years of performing as a solo/acoustic act, he formed a band, and took the DC area by storm with an electrified, blues-rock sound. Billed as Jonny Grave and the Tombstones, they have played a steady string of shows at local DC clubs. They maintain a weekly residency at Madam's Organ Blues Bar on Tuesdays upstairs. They are also currently a part of the student band program at Omega Studios, serving as a model band for the students to record.

Staying true to his acoustic roots, though, Grave still performs solo on a regular basis. He has an ongoing residency at Nanny O'Brien's in Cleveland Park of Washington DC. He is an active participant in the local folk community, teaching slide guitar and Blues lessons. He is also the youngest member of the Washington Folk Festival Committee.

Jonny Grave currently has several releases available for sale on iTunes and Amazon.com. The latest, "Live at Ratfeather's" was recorded at Blue House Studios in Kensington, MD. The album includes 9 tracks of all-electric blues, all recorded live in a single room using an extraordinarily minimalist approach. The resulting sound is blues and rock going back to the basics.
