Acclaimed Americana singer/songwriter Kate Campbell returns for her fifth Strings Attached Productions performance Friday, November 20, at 7 PM.

With a background steeped in the southern condition (from sweet tea to Moonpies, Civil Rights to things gone wrong, Southern Gothic to the Church, and Elvis...always Elvis), Kate Campbell's songs illuminate and inspire. Whether embracing the eccentric, damning the damaging sins of our forebears, striving for something better, Campbell's winsome ways with word and tunes leave an impact long after her last chord fades. If you were raised in the South, Kate's songs resonate with a raw truthfulness. If you're a transplant, her songs and stories welcome with open arms. Her shows are the musical embodiment of authentic southern hospitality.

Originally from Sledge, Mississippi, the daughter of a Southern Baptist preacher too progressive for his denomination, Kate's formative years were forged by the Civil Rights movement, and those indelible experiences continue to inform her music. Her eloquent gift for storytelling draws repeated comparisons to such southern writers such as Eudora Welty, Flannery O'Connor, and William Faulkner. NPR's Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Car Talk, and Mountain Stage have all featured Kate's music. She performs around the country and abroad, including such prestigious festivals as the Cambridge Folk Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival and Merlefest. In an especially unique collaboration, Ballet Memphis featured songs from several of Kate's albums in a ballet based on her music entitled South Of Everywhere.

In addition to her concert tours, Kate consistently sells-out workshops in songwriting craft and experiential musical tours of Ireland. Most importantly, Kate writes and performs sublime songs plumbing some serious subjects, yet her poignancy is offset by an uncanny ability to unearth irony and offer a wry look at life around us. That and she's just damn entertaining, with backstories that break the ice and create communal chortles and great guffaws.

Always a crowd favorite, we are fortunate that Kate will share her brand new CD, The KOA Tapes, with us. It's not officially released until December, but Kate plans to bring some to sell at her November 20 Durham Strings Attached concert.
