Torah of Broadway
Torah of Broadway, an Eclectic Musical Theatre Review

The curtain opens for the Torah of Broadway, written and directed by Paula Flowers, local actor, singer and director, on Saturday, December 12 at 8:00 PM, Sunday, December 13 at 3:00 PM, Saturday, December 19 at 8 PM and a final matinee performance on Sunday, December 20 at 3:00 PM.

The show is about the real-life connections that can be made from the stories and lyrics of Broadway show tunes. Flowers asks, "Why, when we hear the phrase, 'The sun'll come out'  do we all sing back 'Tomorrow?' Well, I'll tell you whybecause musical theater makes us children again. The music, the lights, the lyrics and the dance all affect us on visceral level  allowing us to believe in anything." Flowers has been dreaming of this production for years  the opportunity to choose the songs that most resonate with her in hopes to move the audience as well.

Torah of Broadway includes songs from well-known, favorite Broadway shows such as Sondheim's Into the Woods, The Gershwin Bothers' Porgy and Bess and Annie, written by Thomas Meehan.

The choral director, Robert Bielejeski, serves as musical director of the Rogue Valley Gay Men's Chorus, and Ken Sargeant, a meteorologist by day and accomplished saxophone player, arranger and teacher is the music director.  Rachael Resch, a Nia blackbelt, is the show's choreographer.

Bielejeski says, "We've gathered a cast of sixteen actors, musicians, singers, directors and technicians from the talent-rich Rogue Valley. The cast includes David Gabriel, a well-known singer and actor who just produced his own show, Divine Lunacy, and Susan Tuttle, a recent transplant from the S.F. bay area, and principle in the show, who has an impressive resume of stage work, including Marin Actors theatre in Gypsy, and Caberet, as well as the Pacifica Spindrift Players, where she held supporting roles in Our Town and Diary of Anne Frank.
