D'Lady is back. She ran off five years ago and now she is back, but not everyone is sure if they want her back. Not Bubba, who loved D'Lady and has not left his house since she ran off. Not Jimmy, who ran away with D'Lady, but then she dumped him in a Colorado melon patch. Not Roy, a former flame who wanders back roads, dreaming about D'Lady and seeing headless ghosts. Not Amory, Roy's wife, who wishes he would stop thinking about D'Lady and start trying to conceive. Not Gloria, D'Lady's long-time friend who is mourning the recent loss of her mother. No one is quite sure what to do except Betsy, the girl from the melon patch. She is staying with Gloria and has come to town in search of her Jimmy. Local Story takes place in the hot summer amidst the comings and goings of seven people. Their conflicting wants and desires make for a humorous and touching tale as they fight for their dreams and search for their place in a small town called home.
