6th Annual Grand Homes Tour of Vallejo
Have an Alice in Wonderland adventure and walk into some of Vallejo's outstanding architectural homes built by some of the finest architects in the Bay Area.
A highlight of the tour it is one of Julia Morgan's most sophisticated homes that has blended elements of the Swiss Chalet style and one of Morgan's finest residences in the First Bay Tradition. Another notable home, The Daniel Webster Harrier House, built in 1870 by the founder of the Vallejo Bank, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There will be fine examples of shingled designed and vernacular New England farm houses: more devoted to domestic rather than monumental architecture with an emphasis on simplicity and functionality.
There are also fine examples of shingled designed and vernacular New England farm house style: more devoted to domestic rather than monumental architecture with an emphasis on simplicity and functionality. Mary Curtis Richardson, American painter in the late 1800s named the Mary Cassatt of America, was raised in the home that the Curtis family built in 1856.
The 3-5pm Reception for the Tour will be hosted at the historic building that was once Vallejo's City Hall built in 1927 and designed by architect Charles Perry. It is now the Vallejo Naval & Historical Museum. The Museum's exhibits of the history of Vallejo will be open during the reception. Visions of Dorothy Herger's paintings and drawings of the historic downtown and the Mare Island waterfront will be presented in the reception banquet hall.
The reception will have music by Darrell Edwards and Heavy Weather performing holiday tunes. A festive display of freshly baked desserts, and eatable delights will be available from Vallejo establishments and craft wines will be served from Vino Godfather: Prohibition Red and Prohibition White, which are delicious red and white blends both released in the Spring of 2013 and locally- brewed coffee and homemade Chai Tea will prepare anyone for the self-guided tour of historical and unique homes.
After viewing the homes, one will be invited to an After Party at Vino Godfather on Mare Island from 6-8pm where one will be able to tour explore this historic winery and get a free glass of wine, and even more food.
