A festive program of traditional international and popular Christmas music. The program includes such favorites as Carol of the Bells, The Little Drummer Boy, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and, of course, an audience Christmas carol sing-along.
Whether it be the beautiful and intimate Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, the historic New Dorp Moravian Church on Staten Island, or the Lovinger Theatre at Lehman College in the Bronx, this program of joyful music of the season, including a traditional Christmas carol sing-along, will delight audiences of all ages and musical tastes.

ABOUT THE NEW DORP MORAVIAN CHURCH
Staten Island, New York
The New Dorp Moravian Church in Staten Island was organized in 1763 and is the second-oldest church on Staten Island. The original church was erected in 1763 and still stands at the rear of the present church, which was built in 1837.
In the 1730s Moravian settlers in New York and Pennsylvania commissioned a new sailing ship to be built at a shipyard located near today's Verrazano Bridge. The ship, named the "Irene," made 14 round trips to Europe, bringing mostly Moravian missionaries and church members to New York. The Moravian Church is one of the oldest Protestant denominations dating back to 1457. The early Moravians came from the area of the Czech Republic known as Moravia.
The original organ at the New Dorp Moravian Church was a Hook & Hastings tracker organ installed in 1845. That organ was modified and relocated during renovations to the church in the 1960s. In 2009 the Peragallo Pipe Organ Company built a new two-manual organ that retains all the pipes from the second organ, with some pipes dating to the original Hook & Hastings model. Twelve new ranks and a MIDI interface were also added making the instrument not only beautiful but very versatile.
On the grounds of the church is the largest and most beautifully landscaped cemetery on Staten Island. It covers 113 acres and has graves dating back to 1740. It is the burial place of many famous Staten Islanders, especially the Vanderbilts. In the 19th century Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt gave the Moravian Church 8 acres. His son later donated an additional 4 acres. The Vanderbilt mausoleum was constructed in 1885-1886 and is part of the family's private section within the cemetery. The landscaped grounds surrounding the Vanderbilt mausoleum were designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, designer of New York City's Central Park and Brooklyn's Prospect Park.
NYChoral is appearing as part of the New Dorp Moravian Church Concert Series, which has presented songwriters, jazz artists and notably The Young People's Chorus of New York City and The Village Light Opera.
