Hometown Hootenanny: Bluegrass and Americana
The stage of the Historic Everett Theatre will host an impressive array of talent at the "Bluegrass and Americana" Hometown Hootenanny, starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. The theatre is located at 2911 Colby in downtown Everett.

Hootenanny audience favorite Northern Departure, a young bluegrass band that has gained regional and nationwide notice, headlines the show. The young men who make up the energetic bluegrass quartet are amazing technical musicians who infuse original, contemporary and traditional bluegrass music with a unique style that captivates every audience. They have earned enthusiastic standing ovations during each of their four previous appearances on the Hometown Hootenanny stage.

The four-piece Runaway Train bluegrass band has developed a solid reputation over the past ten years for strong leads, tight vocal harmonies and solid instrumental work. The band's youngest member is only 17, but there's nothing immature about his banjo work. Runaway Train performs at concerts and festivals throughout the region, and hosts Shelton's Bluegrass from the Forest festival in May.

Representing the "Americana" part of the evening, the Canote Brothers think of themselves as links in the chain of musical brother duets like the Stanley Brothers, the Blue Sky Boys, Sam and Kirk Magee or the Everlys. With one foot firmly planted in the traditions of American Roots music, they also have an ear tuned to the novel and the quirky. As one reviewer put it, "Their songs all have the ring of cock-eyed classics!"

But wait--there's more! Offering an unexpected vocal quality and vintage ragtime sensibilities, the Beehive Juggernauts employ spoons, washboards and cigar boxes as musical instruments in a fun and totally unique presentation. And bluegrass (and Hootenanny) veteran Cal Winston has put together an eclectic combo of musicians that includes bluesman Reggie Miles for yet another unforgettable act.

The Hometown Hootenanny is a family-friendly event, presenting live music and a variety of entertainers in a classic venue in downtown Everett. Red Curtain Productions is the producing entity of Red Curtain Foundation for the Arts, a non-profit arts education organization located in north Snohomish County.
