Johns Hopkins University's Evergreen Museum & Library presents the exhibition "Peter Milton: Etching Enigmas." The exhibition will be on view March 20 through August 28, 2016. The opening reception on Sunday, March 20, from 3 to 5 p.m., will be open to the public and include complimentary refreshments.
"Peter Milton: Etching Enigmas" explores the artistry of one of the preeminent etchers of the twentieth century, American Peter Milton. This celebrated printmaker has enjoyed a long and fruitful career. His large scale, multi-layered images defy visual logic while engaging one and all in fantastically detailed narratives addressing life, music, and art.
This intimate exhibition features a selection of the artist's quintessential etchings, while its focus is a treasure trove of Milton's actual copper plates. These rare survivors afford a most unique access to the innovate techniques Milton devised for his enigmatic compositions. They are, according to Milton, "the most beautiful things I make."
