One of the highlights of the Grand Homes of Vallejo Tour is The Halliday House at 721 Georgia Street designed by William A Jones (Vallejo's best architect) this brown-shingle house was built in 1912. William A Jones also designed the historic Empress Theatre. This L-shape home has inset arched front windows and craftsman inspired cabinetry.
Another historical home built in 1897 was a wedding gift from James Topley to his son William. The Topleys had a three generation drug store business at 316 Georgia Street. The Queen Anne and California Colonial Revival period home, built in 1897 at 727 York Street (picture attached) has an eclectic arrangement of Queen Anne influences: the stained glass windows on the rounded Colonial entry porch are original with a gambrel roof; this home is a sterling example of Victorian tastes of the new Century.
There is also a Queen Anne Cottage; as well as another spectacular three bedroom craftsmen cottage at 810 Sutter Street, which was awarded the 2003 City of Vallejo beautification award; on tour is also the Megarry Mansion, a Georgian style home (one of the few in Vallejo) at 809 Georgia Street, with tubular columns, built for the Megarry sisters by their brother Arthur, a grocer in the late 1800s in downtown Vallejo.
