FIRST FRIDAY @ GALERIA WEST Music Series with ALI BELLO @ THE SWEET WIRE PROJECT
The popular First Friday Music Series at the Galeria West art gallery in downtown Westfield, NJ continues with a special evening of Latin Jazz, Boleros, Bossa Nova and more by acclaimed South American violinist Ali Bello and his Sweet Wire Project music ensemble.
Venezuelan born Alí Bello is a dazzling and versatile violinist whose music education started in "El Sistema" (The National System on Youth Orchestras of Venezuela) in his native country. In the mid 90's Alí traveled to New York for his college education receiving Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Music Arts. It was during his years in college that Alí began contact with the jazz and Latin
jazz scene of the city and he ventured into new explorations of improvisational music and other styles. His talents and credits stretch beyond the realm of classical music, including jazz, pop, R&B, middle Eastern, flamenco, and especially the many styles of South American music  erasing the boundaries between classical, jazz and folkloric genres.
He has recorded, performed, toured, and collaborated with music figures that range from Tito Puente to JayZ as well as performed in Music Festivals in the United States, England, Australia, and The Caribbean Islands. He has been
a member of such musical groups as the Latin Jazz Coalition, the Fania AllStar Band, and Orquesta Broadway as well as leading his own AfroLatin groups, the Sweet Wire Project, and his Latin Jazz sextet The Latin Jazz
Liaisons.
Ali is joined in this Sweet Wire performance by guitarist Martín Moretto, one of New York's active Argentine musicians. As well as leading his own group, Martin composes, arranges, and collaborates in diverse popular and contemporary settings.
Martin has performed in the concert halls of Brasil, Argentina, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Peru and Chile, and in the halls and nightclubs of New York, including appearances at Lincoln Center and The Blue Note.
Currently Martín is working on his new record "Memories" coming out soon. The record features Martin's compositions and arrangements.
Eddy Khaimovich on acoustic bass was born in Vilnius, Lithuania (former USSR) and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1990. He began playing classical bass at age 15 and soon progressed from classical to contemporary, to world music and finally, at 22, to jazz where his multiform tastes caused him to explore many types of music as a player and a composer.
Eddy studied classical bass at the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem and jazz bass at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City after his arrival in the United States in 2001.
Eddy keeps a busy schedule performing and recording with various artists in NYC and has recently recorded his first CD
Percussioist Nick Herman has been involved with Cuban music for over 15 years. He began performing as a rock drummer in the 1980s at venues like CBGBs and Pyramid. In the 1990s he began to immerse himself in Cuban and Brazilian music, studying with masters such as Changuito, Afro Cuba de Matanzas, Bobby Sanabria, Jorge Alabê, and Roberto Vizcaino.
Nick has worked recently with artists such as Trey
Anastasio, Jay Collins, Gary Morgan & Panamericana, Nanni Assis, Dendê, Pupi Insua'sGrupo Oriki, Las Gardenias, Orquesta Tropicana, and Mecca Bodega. His articles on Cuban music have appeared in Aché and the All Music Guide. Nick paraded as a ritmista (drummer) in Rio de Janeiro's Carnaval in 2005 and 2008.
Along with this evening of fabulous music performance do plan to enjoy a fine meal and delicious desserts before or after the show at one of several dining establishments in downtown Westfield and the surrounding area. Most are located within walking distance from the gallery.
